You have arrived—presumably through no administrative fault of your own—at Dispatches From Vaelen-Craig.
I am Earnest Scribbler, Esq., Editor-in-Chief, Senior Collator, and Sole Custodian of the Unsanctioned Folios. It has fallen to me, by virtue of superior penmanship and an unfortunate inability to dodge arbitrary appointments, to assemble, annotate, and present the astonishingly irregular history known to posterity as The Bromeliad.
A word of necessary caution before you proceed: the materials cataloged within these dispatches do not represent the tidy, heroic annals approved by the High Chancellery. You will find no bronze plaques commemorating visionary statecraft, nor will you discover epic poetry celebrating clean, decisive battles.
Instead, these records document the world as it actually functions: a vast, teetering apparatus governed largely by petty jurisdictional disputes, weaponized filing systems, alarming applications of administrative sorcery, and the singular stubbornness of Bartleby Bromelard—a scrivener who possessed the unpardonable audacity to look at five centuries of institutional inertia and refuse to file in triplicate.
As chronicler, my duties are strict:
- To preserve the record without bowing to the red pens of the Board of Censors (who are cordially reminded that my current requisition permits five additional reams of seditious parchment).
- To clarify the chaos, translating the arcane gibberish of clerical warfare into prose intelligible to the common reader.
- To disclaim all legal liability should any reader find themselves accidentally conscripted, foreclosed upon, or hexed via statutory loophole while browsing these archives.
Take your time. Mind the margin notes—several contain live counter-curses. Wipe the dust from the bindings, guard your inkwells, and should an auditor approach from the rear corridor, remember the golden rule of Vaelen-Craig:
